Alex Swanson Sr. had served with the Royal Winnipeg Riffles (a.k.a. “The Little Black Devils”) during the Great War. This unit saw service at Ypres, Paschendale, Amiens, the Somme, and Vimy Ridge, and had five WW I Victoria Cross winners, three of them awarded posthumously. Mr. Alexander Harold Swanson passed away February 3, 1961 at age 74 and is buried in the Veterans section of the West Vancouver (Capilano View) Cemetery. He was a “Life Member” of Branch 60.
